Leading Brazilian honey producer Baldoni has announced it is investing R$5 million ($923,000) in a plant to manufacture jams and preserves as it looks to diversify beyond its core category.
The firm reportedly entered the new segment last September with the launch of jams sweetened with honey instead of sugar. Presently the range is being produced by manufacturing partners, but the company is now said to be keen to bring production in house.
According to sources, the new plant will be located in Itatiba (Sao Paulo) and will have an initial production capacity of 500,000 jars per month. Further investment in new machinery or longer shifts patterns, however, could see capacity reach 2 million jars per month.
The new facility is expected to start operating between August and September this year.
