Leading UK food manufacturer Pilgrim’s Pride has announced plans to close a facility in West London that specialises in producing meat snacks for the UK retail market.
The shuttering of the Spurway facility, which is expected to affect up to 270 staff, follows the mooted closure of another Pilgrim’s Pride factory in Southall. Both sites were acquired when Pilgrim’s Pride bought the Consumer Foods’ Meats and Meals business of Kerry Group in 2021.
Commenting on the decision, a Pilgrim’s Pride spokesperson said: “These necessary proposals form part of the business’s on-going review of its operational footprint to ensure sites are fully optimised, securing a sustainable future for the business and our colleagues”.
“As a market-leading supplier to the meals and snacking categories, Pilgrim’s Europe remains fully committed to investing in, and building on, our 30-year heritage and capability to provide best-in-class service to our customers, and high-quality food solutions to our consumers, including at our local Windmill site”, the company added.
